Oxford United look to get back to winning ways when they welcome Plymouth Argyle to Grenoble Road on Saturday.
Successive defeats against Bristol Rovers and Rotherham United have left the U’s looking for a positive reaction this weekend, as caretaker boss Derek Fazackerley told iFollow this morning:
“You have to put the disappointment behind you and try and move on” he said. “In some respects the performance at Rotherham was a big step up from the previous game but you need results as well and obviously results breed confidence.
“We are playing Plymouth who have gone 12 or 13 games with just one defeat now and that shows what confidence can do because when we played them earlier in the season they were struggling close to the foot of the league. We had a fantastic result there that day so let’s hope we can repeat it on Saturday.”
That win at Plymouth was one of several outstanding performances on the road this season, but ‘Faz’ is looking for a convincing home victory this time and is urging the Yellow Army to lend a helping hand:
“Definitely. It has been five defeats in eight games at home and that’s not acceptable at any level. If you are feeling it at home then it gives you a problem but I think that’s where our supporters can help us by getting behind the players and encouraging them. They have done that ever since I have been at this football club and hopefully they can do it again this Saturday and give us that extra little bit to help us get that win we need.
“It’s a test of everybody’s character and we will see on Saturday what we are made of. You like to think you have the resilience and strength of character in the team but of course you have to show it in the games.”
