Terminally ill fan becomes part of the Oxford United squad
There will be a new name in the Oxford United squad for the rest of the season.
Fan Steve Dyer has been an Oxford United fan all of his life and his story has touched the hearts of all Oxford fans. Terminally ill, Steve travelled home to Oxford from his home in America so his son could see the U’s at Wembley last season. He then bought two season tickets for 2016/17 and immediately donated them to Helen and Douglas House hospice so that youngsters could benefit from them and use them each week.
Steve is very ill at the moment and Chairman Darryl Eales seen a video message to him at the weekend to which Steve sent an emotional message back saying how much it meant to him to see the U’s doing well.
“Thanks to all the fans” he said “I love you all.”
Oxford United are very proud to announce that Steve will be our number 12 for the rest of the season, featuring on the official team list and match programme at every game.
Chairman Darryl Eales said
“It is a story that has touched everyone. Steve is such a positive person and is fighting so hard. He is part of the club and we want to show him that he is in our thoughts every week. He will be our 12th man for the rest of the season.”
