Development side win against the Bees
Oxford United’s Development Side were 4-1 winners in a friendly at Barnet this afternoon thanks to two goals from Sam Long and second half goals from Alex MacDonald and Josh Ruffels.
The U’s used the game to give first team players match sharpness, with Benji Buchel in goal behind a back four of Miles Welch-Hayes, Long, Aaron Martin and Charlie Hawtin. In midfield Ruffels and Ryan Ledson were flanked by MacDonald and Tyler Roberts while Dan Crowley played just behind George Jeacock up front.
After an even first 30 minutes the U’s took the lead when the two centre-halves combined, Martin heading back at the far post and Long applying the finishing touch inside the box.
The second goal came after 55 minutes and was similar to the first, this time Ruffels arriving at the back post and guiding the ball back for Long to score his second of the afternoon.
It was 3-0 on 70 when Crowley’s through ball allowed MacDonald to run clear and drill a good effort past the keeper to make it 3-0 and although Barnet pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 United ended the scoring when Ruffels stroked the ball home right-footed from the edge of the box to make it 4-1.
