Former United winger joins up with the Academy as a coach
Former United winger Chris Hackett has returned to the club where his career started to join the Oxford United academy coaching team, taking charge of the boys under-15s.
Chris, who has also played for Hearts, Millwall and Northampton, said:
“It’s been in the pipeline for a while and I’ve been involved now for the past couple of weeks. I’m loving it. They’re a great bunch of lads here and it’s back where I started so it’s great that I can put something back in to it.
“I’ve been doing my badges over the past few years and I’ve got my UEFA B badge. I’m 34 now so getting into coaching is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while and it’s something that I really enjoy.
“Coaching here gives me the opportunity to put something back and I’m also learning all the time myself. I have accumulated a lot of experience over the years.
“I’ve watched a lot of the age groups and there is a good standard here and some great talent coming through that just needs nurturing and guiding and that’s what I’m aiming to do. I’d like to see Oxford lads coming through and playing for the Oxford United first team because that would be good for the club. With the first team doing so well and a proper structure in place this is a really good platform for the best local talent to step on.”
