Winger signs on Deadline Day
Oxford United have competed the signing of Motherwell winger Marvin Johnson for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old winger began his career with Solihull Moors before joining Romulus and then Kidderminster Harriers where he attracted interest from a number of clubs. He moved to Motherwell where he has become a big favourite with the fans for his direct style and willingness to take defenders on. Having scored four times already this season for Motherwell a number of clubs south of the border had been monitoring his progress but it was the U’s who won the race for his signature.
“We were aware that a number of clubs have been interested and are delighted that he will be an Oxford player” Head Coach Michael Appleton said. “He is a player that excites the fans because he is fast, he has a trick and his first instinct is to go forward, take players on and create chances.
“It has taken a while for us to get our man but we can’t wait to start working with him.”
Marvin said
“It has been hard because Motherwell fans have been great with me but I’m very pleased to be joining a club like Oxford which is obviously on the up and ambitious. The Manager has a great reputation for working with players and helping them develop their game and I can’t wait to join training and be involved.”
Marvin joins fellow new boy Charlie Raglan in the squad as the U’s take on Rochdale at home on Saturday. Come and join us and give them a huge Oxford welcome. Tickets are available from www.oufctickets.co.uk and 01865 337533
