Oxford United Women got back to winning ways in the best possible style with a 5-0 win at Gillingham on Sunday.
The goals came from Amber Roberts, Lauren Haynes, Flo Fyfe, Sophie Baker and Ellie Noble, leaving Manager Liam Gilbert delighted with his team:
“What a performance! It was an emphatic victory today. The players were superb, they didn’t give Gillingham time to rest throughout the entire 90 minutes. All the players worked tirelessly for each other and I am so happy for everyone involved to get this result after what has been a testing week. There is an abundance of character and resilience in this group of players and it is great for them to get what they deserve.
“We had five different goal scorers today which is very pleasing from a personal point of view as we aren’t relying on one or two players to score our goals for us. We hit the woodwork three times and went close on countless other occasions. I said to the players during the week that we had a performance like this in us it will now be about replicating this and continuing to improve week in week out. As a coaching staff we are delighted with the clean sheet also, especially away from against a team that were high on confidence.
“This may sound like a cliché but this was one of those games where I couldn’t pick one player of the match as it was a real team effort. The way we are moving the ball and the decisions we are making in possession is great to watch. Our home game against Loughborough Foxes has now been rescheduled to next weekend so we don’t have long to wait until our next game!”
