Oxford United U18s take on Swindon Town in a crucial A420 derby this Saturday looking to retain their status as league leaders.
The young U’s have continued to impress week in, week out in the league this year and have been rewarded by their hard work, going top of the league last weekend. They made it ten league wins in a row with a dominating 3-0 win over Portsmouth, and with Luton Town dropping points, it meant that they took top spot for the first time this season.
The two sides have met on three encounters already this season in three different competitions, with every single one living up to the reputation of a fierce derby. Swindon drew first blood, beating the U’s 3-1 in the Youth Alliance Cup, which was the last time United lost a game at home, dating all the way back to September last year.
The next encounter was in the U17-PDL Cup, where both sides settled for a 0-0 draw. The most recent meeting came in the league in December where United came out on top comfortably with a 3-0 win.
The visitors find themselves fifth in the league, with chances of the title starting to slip away from them, sitting seven points below the Yellows. They will also be high on confidence, winning their last five league games. including a crucial 2-1 win over Plymouth a couple weeks back.
