Oxford United's CEO, Tim Williams, wrote the following programme notes for the Sky Bet League One game against Peterborough United:
A warm welcome to all our supporters, to the Peterborough United team and to their fans who have made the journey to be with us for today’s match. I would also like to extend my congratulations to all of their players, staff and management for the EFL Trophy final victory against Wycombe last Sunday.
Coming into this game on the back of two 4-0 victories means we can approach the run-in knowing that we can comfortably win games and can absolutely score goals. There is, however, no room for complacency, despite being in the driving seat for a Play-Off place.
There are no easy games to come. Peterborough have always shown great quality and, with their track record in recent years, we know they are a difficult side to beat. Lincoln’s performances this year have been incredible, and Stevenage are certainly not far away from the Play-Off places. We’ve hit form at the right time though and are well equipped to meet the challenge ahead of us.
I was fortunate enough to spend some time with the players and the coaching staff last weekend on our away trip to Burton. The spirit and motivation around the squad at the moment is really positive and that, in and of itself, is a huge boost.
I know it’s been a while since the fans’ forum, but I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who organised the event and also to everyone who attended and contributed to what was a really positive evening. I thoroughly enjoyed it – not only the Q&As but also the opportunity to speak afterwards with as many of you as possible and listen to your views, thoughts, ideas and observations. Your feedback allows us to take action where we can.
As a club and as a management team, we like to always ask the question ‘what can we do for you?’. This time I have the opposite – ‘what can you do for us’? So here goes.
The stadium project is entering into a very critical phase as many of you may have read. It is essential that you contact your local councillor and give your backing to the Oxford United Stadium development. Your voice counts and will make a difference.
If you visit our dedicated stadium website (https://oufcstadium.co.uk/), you can follow our simple guide which will help you identify your local councillor, find their contacts details and understand key points to emphasise in your letter or email of support. Even if you don’t live in Oxfordshire, you can still write in, so I urge you to do so.
As a club, we are doing everything we can to secure the land deal that will allow us to move forward with confidence and surety. This is a once in a generation opportunity for the county and the club, and we will continue to engage with OUSP, OxVox and the wider community to work on next steps, but we need you behind this project as much as we need you behind our team today.
Enjoy today’s match.
Thank you.
Tim
