Oxford United Women suffered a 4-0 defeat on the road at Pompey Women yesterday afternoon.
The U’s found themselves 3-0 down at half time, and when former United winger Beth Lumsden made it four in the second half, United were condemned to their first ever league defeat against the Blues.
Interim Manager George Anthony spoke to us after the game
“We were disappointing in the way we came out for the game and the way we played. We spoke after with the players and there’s a disappointment throughout the team with our overall performance.
“We caused ourselves issues leading up to the goals; they’re things we identified and worked on so it’s frustrating. We had got ourselves in a good place the last couple of weeks but it’s obviously something we need to look at again.
“When you think about momentum and how the game swings, conceding two goals back-to-back it’s difficult to pick yourself up from as a group of players. That slowed us down in terms of getting going and playing the football we know we can play.
“We’ve been in this situation before and we’ve got a group of players that can bounce back. They’re a resilient group and the message is to go into next week and make sure we put it right.
The U’s now face a break from league action as they travel to Hashtag United Women on Sunday 1st of October in the FAWNL Cup.
