A 3-0 win over Exeter City lifted Oxford United to second in the Sky Bet League 1 table on Saturday and for forward Ruben Rodrigues it capped a perfect day.
The Portuguese playmaker scored his first Oxford goal to set the ball rolling and afterwards was quick to pass the credit for his opener on to those around him
“I was buzzing to finally get off the mark” he told iFollow. “Everyone has kept saying ‘your moment is going to come’ 'your goal is going to come’ so that positive energy from everyone has helped me a lot and just kept building. We create a lot of chances and luckily enough for me Kyle Edwards delivered the perfect cross and I just needed to guide it in.
“I don’t mind heading the ball every now and again! I just happened to be in the right place and I’m really happy that it went in.
“The win for the team was more important than my first goal. We always want to win but I didn’t think we were at our best today. The discipline is there though and the way we keep working hard for each other, the way we defend our box just shows this team’s character. We had to dig deep but eventually we got there today.
“The fans have been amazing and gave us that little extra push we needed. If you look at the game we got a little lift from the fans towards the end and that helped us win 3-0.”
