Oxford United will reflect on defeat at Wigan on Tuesday and use it to spark a reaction when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday
“It was a long journey home and the manner we lost was disappointing but I do think there were positives to take from it,” Marcus McGuane told iFollow earlier today.
“We just lacked that little bit of creativity or spark in the final third of the pitch in that game, but you sit on the bus home and think about it, reflect on it on Wednesday then you come in on Thursday and Friday and it’s a fresh start. We need to take those positive points and put them into action when we play Wycombe on Saturday.
“There is so much to be positive about this season anyway. The contrast to last season is clear; we have the fans backing us and the environment we are creating here is excellent. We know to stay level headed and we know we have been playing well and we have to make sure Tuesday was just a blip.
“The Gaffer has created that environment and we have all bought into it. He is very honest, very open and I have an extremely good relationship with him. I enjoy being here and like being around the boys in training every day. It’s a place you want to come in to every day and work hard. Obviously we have objectives we all want to hit this season and to get to that we all have to play as well as we can. If we all do that then it makes it easier to reach our goal.
“After Tuesday we just need that consistency again. That’s something I have been working on myself as well, and last season I felt like I started to find it after the Gaffer came in.
“I don’t put pressure on myself but I know I have to get to that 7 or 8 out of 10 every game. If I do that then the boys know they can rely on me and I can rely on myself. I am very clear-minded and I know what I need to do. I am getting to an age where I want to get to that next level and play consistently, and I want to do that with Oxford United.”
