There was mixed news for defender Sam Long today as the U’s prepare to welcome Maidenhead in the Emirates FA Cup.
The long-serving defender was forced off early in Tuesday’s win at Lincoln with an ankle injury and will be missing for a few weeks, although as Liam Manning told iFollow today, the injury is hopefully not as bad as first feared.
“The big positive is that there is no fracture,” Liam said. “He had a scan and it showed no break, so that’s good but it’s not just a case of letting it all settle down and assessing the full extent of the damage. We do know it’s going to take a while but a fracture would have taken a lot longer, so we’ll take that as a positive.
“Stephan Negru and James Henry could be available again though,” he said. “And Kyle Edwards and Marcus Browne are making good progress now. Hopefully we'll see them back around the squad before the end of the month”.
United are in excellent form in Sky Bet League 1 and now look to transfer that to the FA Cup this weekend.
“We want to do well in every competition,” Liam said. “I think if you get your preparation wrong or treat the opposition with anything other than total respect then that’s when upsets tend to happen. Maidenhead will be very tough opponents and we are going to have to play very well if we want to get through to the next round."
