Carly Johns scored her 50th and 51st goals for Oxford United Women on Tuesday night
Johns netted twice in the 4-1 victory over MK Dons which saw the U’s reclaim the top spot in the Southern Premier Division.
The goals were also her 18th and 19th of the season, placing her at the top of the scoring charts in the League.
What’s more impressive about Johns’ record is the short amount of time she’s reached the milestone in, scoring 51 goals in 70 games.
We caught up with the striker to discuss her goalscoring form and the final six games of the season
“It feels amazing to have reached that milestone and it also feels good to know that I’ve made an impact for the club.
“I couldn’t have reached the milestone without my teammates, the coaching staff and the support from the fans, they have all helped me improve to be the player I am today.
Johns has already won United’s Goal of the Month this season and has a wealth of worldies under her belt. Which is her favourite though?
“I have a few favourites! One of them is my first goal against Portsmouth this season at home and my goal against Billericay away this year to get the 3 points at a really important time in the game and the season.
United’s number 9 has scored seven times in the last four games, since moving back into the centre forward role after filling in in midfield for a few months.
“I really enjoy playing as the centre forward, I get the movement patterns and I just love scoring goals!
“It’s great that we are scoring all different sorts of goals and also different goal scorers. This is so important as we aren’t just relying on a couple of players, it’s the whole team who are playing a massive impact on getting the results we want.
“The service has been great this season and that’s down to the hard work in training and the trust us players give to each other, we have confidence in one another and I think that shows massively on the pitch.
With six games left in the League, one being a massive clash against Watford this Sunday, does Carly have a target to hit for the end of the season?
“My target was 20 at the start of the season so maybe I could push that up a little bit! I’d love to go on and score 100 goals for the club, but that might take a couple of seasons to get to!”
