Oxford United Academy’s Lead Foundation Phase Coach, Alexandros Evangelakakis, will join Lithuania Under 17s today as part of their Analysis Team.
He will spend ten days with the team, eight of whom play in England, to help develop the talent in the national side as they face Bosnia, Lichtenstein and Andorra.
Alexandros has previously worked with Iceland and Luxembourg in a similar capacity, so we asked him how the opportunity with Lithuania came about.
“The technical director of Luxembourg where I’m actually originally from, is now the technical director of Lithuania and he called me a few weeks ago to go over, which was really nice from him.
“Working with Iceland Under 21s was a great experience, but with Covid it was difficult at times as I had to work from home a lot. Now, I get to be with Lithuania in every camp and that’s something that really interests me, being part of the group, in the team, in the trenches.
Alexandros will join the U17s this week, followed by the Under 21s in June, the Under 19s in September and October, and back to the 21s in November.
“With the 21s I get to travel because they move around, but with the 17s and 19s you most likely stay in your country and play some home games twice.
As Lead Foundation Phase Coach, Alexandros has recently completed his UEFA B License and oversees the club’s U7-10’s Schoolboy program.
“I’ll take the experience that I’ve learnt from Hacks, Pabs and Leon who have helped me with the older age groups. I’m still doing the analysis which I think is beneficial for me to learn as well as going to do some individual stuff that I can support the players during the game and in sessions.
“I’ve been to a few and now it’s a new culture, new people, and I’m excited to get out of the rain in England! I don’t know what the weather will be like there but I’m really excited and it’s always great to learn something new in my opinion.”
We wish Alexandros all the best during his time in Lithuania.
