U's Get Set For First Friendly

Oxford United get pre-season under way tomorrow when they welcome Southampton B for a Behind Closed Doors friendly.

It’s the first chance for new signings James Beadle, Fin Stevens, Jordan Thorniley, Josh McEachran, Ruben Rodrigues and Mark Harris to get minutes under their belts and, as Liam Manning told us, the squad is in a good place as they build towards the new season.

“There are no real injury concerns,.” he said. “You tend to get a few aches and pains in pre-season but the programme we put together has been really good and we should have everyone available. James Henry and Stephan Negru missed the end of last season but are fit again and with the new boys all fitting in it will be good to start playing matches.

“The Southampton game will be a case of everyone getting 45 minutes and then we have the first public game down at Eastleigh on Tuesday night before a home game against Swansea on Friday night. Everyone will get a chance to show what they can do and everything is geared towards us being ready for that first league game at Cambridge.”

Tomorrow’s game is behind closed doors and will not be streamed by either club but we will have a report and gallery right here on the final whistle.

The under 18s continue their pre-season with a game at home to the Robbie Fowler Academy on Saturday afternoon at the training ground.

A reminder that the Swansea game at the Kassam Stadium is half price for Season Ticket holders, as is another home game against QPR on Saturday 29th.
