Keepers In Safe Hands

There is a change in the goalkeeping department at Oxford United for the coming season with long-serving Coach Wayne Brown departing and Lewis Price joining the club in a similar position.

Wayne joined the club 12 years ago, initially as a player but then replacing goalkeeping legend Alan Hodgkinson as the First Team Goalkeeping Coach. The club would like to thank Wayne for his hard work and wish him well for the future.

His place on the coaching team will be taken by Lewis, a former Welsh international who played 11 times for his country during a long career that started at Ipswich Town and included spells at Derby County, Crystal Palace, Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday. He then became goalkeeping coach at AFC Bournemouth, working with their U21 side, before joining Liam Manning’s coaching team at MK Dons.

He told us

“Firstly I want to thank Browny. I have known him for many years and he has done a great job here. For me this is a fantastic opportunity and I have been really impressed by the facilities, especially for the keepers. With Simon Eastwood, Ed McGinty and James Beadle we have three exceptional senior keepers but there are also some excellent younger keepers and the standards are very high across the club. I’m really looking forward to it.”
