Oxford United Women progressed to the semi-finals of the County Cup against Tower Hill Ladies yesterday, and now have a week to prepare for a big FA Cup tie.
United Women put 21 past Tower Hill Ladies in the Quarter Final, with goals from Lacy Liggett, Erin Hartigan, Davina Spinoza, Carly Johns, Tash Stephens and Sarah King.
Now, the U’s travel to Championship side Bristol City on Sunday, the 29th of January, in the Fourth Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. Kick off is at 2PM at the Robins High Performance Centre.
Bristol City currently sit second in the second tier of Women’s Football and will provide a real challenge for the U’s, but Manager Liam Gilbert is excited.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against a team at the next level. We’ve got some good minutes in the tank this weekend in the County Cup and now I know the squad will put in a real graft this week so we are as best prepared as we can be for Sunday” he said.
Oxford United Development Squad also had a big win in the quarter final of the FAWNL Reserve Cup, beating AFC Bournemouth 3-0 with goals from Anais Harris-Beechers, Amy Woodhead and Holly Sellwood.
Development Squad Manager George Anthony said
“We got off on the front foot and I thought we played some really good football considering Bournemouth set up really well and made it very tough for us to break them down. It’s a new experience for some of the squad to get into a semi final and it gives us something different to prepare for, we’re really excited.”
