Oxford United Women will have to regroup after their game against Ipswich Town Women was postponed late in the day yesterday afternoon.
The U’s were due to kick off at 2PM at the AGL Arena but when they arrived at around 12:30PM they were met by a late pitch inspection.
Despite the referee and groundsmen delaying kick off by thirty minutes, and trying to find a solution, small parts of the pitch were deemed unsafe and therefore unplayable, and the game was called off just before 1PM.
The U’s will now have to wait until Sunday the 9th of April when they travel to Crawley Wasps for their next league game.
Despite another obstacle to their momentum, Manager Liam Gilbert is confident in his squad’s resilience and strength.
“We’re obviously gutted and it’s taken a lot of physical and mental energy for the group to take time off work for a weekend away like this. We’re really disappointed, we’d prepared excellently, and I could see the focus in my squad.
“To travel and not get anything out of it, or to even have the chance to is massively frustrating, but I know what this group are like and I trust that their reaction will be fantastic and it will give them fire in their bellies to make it count when we do get to play.
“We want to offer a huge thankyou to all the travelling fans. It’s a long journey when you get to see your team play, so to make the effort and get nothing is really hard. Your support doesn’t go unnoticed and although out of our hands we know how frustrating yesterday was. Thank you again for your wonderful commitment.
“We’ll have a hard week of training and plan accordingly when we find out the rearranged date, but for now we put it behind us and focus on Crawley Wasps away this Sunday. We’ve struggled there in previous seasons so our attitude and application will have to be spot on.
Join the U's on the road on Sunday as they enter the final five games of the FAWNL Southern Premier Division season.
