On request as a senior player, Sam Baldock delivered a presentation to our scholars on maximising opportunity and professionalism last week.
Sam shared his experiences and observations on what has made some players more successful than others.
Head of Academy Player Care Eddie Odhiambo told us
“We asked Sam to present because through his career he will have become an expert in appreciating the skills and mindset of successful players. It is a powerful message coming from a current player, whom the boys can learn a lot from.
“Maximising potential consists of consistent quality and effectiveness in your practice. It was important for the players to be given examples of good habits that they can adapt to suit themselves and hopefully sustain future careers.
First Year Scholar Richard McIntyre reflected on the opportunity
“It was interesting to listen to Sam speaking. Afterwards in the changing room, we all spoke about some of the examples he gave about professionalism because we could measure our own standards against his examples.
“There are some things we could recognise between us which is great. Also, we realise that we can do better. The good thing is that we are in a great position to improve".
