Pegasus School Turns Yellow for Helen & Douglas House

There was a marathon effort  yesterday when Oxford United fan Ella Greenough turned her school Yellow to show her love for the U’s and to raise money for Helen & Douglas House

Helen and Douglas House are the world’s first children’s hospice, providing invaluable support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

As a charity, they have to raise £3.6million each year to support their community, with 81% of the funding coming from the general public. A considerable contribution comes from those who run the London Marathon, which takes place this Sunday.

One of our own, Amy Cranston will be running the 26 miles in the capital this weekend, which prompted young Ella to initiate a superb idea.

Ella, who attends Pegasus School and is part of the Helen & Douglas community, inspired her classmates to wear yellow to help Amy reach her target. The children were treated to a day of fun with Amy, Olly the Ox and Kyle Joseph visiting the school to show their support but the students were the stars and raised over £400 which will mean the Oxford United team running the London Marathon have raised close to £6,000 between them.

Kyle told us: “I think it’s a fantastic charity and with Amy running on Sunday, it’s amazing how much money they have raised. It’s incredible for Ella, someone so young, to come up with an idea like this. Being a young player myself, I look back and think I would have loved to be involved in a day like this when I was in school so it means a lot to me to come and show my face and give something back.”

“Amy is brilliant. I couldn’t think of anything worse to do than run a marathon! All the lads and staff are behind her as well, she’s brilliant for doing this.”
