Oxford United are delighted to announce the appointment of Gemma Sims as General Manager of the Oxford United Women team.
Gemma will work alongside Manager Liam Gilbert and his staff to take care of the day to day running of the women’s side of the club while also helping to promote not just the development of women’s football within the club but also in the women’s game more widely, as she told us:
“It is an amazing opportunity and a great time to come back to the club, having been a player and seen the way the whole infrastructure has moved forward. Liam and his coaching staff will be responsible for the team and training, all of the playing side, while I just help co-ordinate things and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
“The way the whole club works on a ‘One Club’ basis is great and I look forward to getting to know everyone and helping build on the fantastic work that has been going on to keep pushing the women's game forward.”
Managing Director Niall McWilliams welcomed Gemma, saying
“We saw this as a key appointment; someone who can provide support for the continued development of the women’s game. Gemma obviously knows the club inside out and has seen it grow and grow and of course she has a strong business background. The team itself has started very strongly, long may that continue, and we believe Gemma will be a fantastic addition to the group of people behind the scenes who are driving that success."
