LAST WORD Matty Taylor on Chelsea

Matty Taylor’s 60th goal for the U’s was not enough as Chelsea’s Under 21s hit back to win the Papa John’s Trophy game 2-1 at the Kassam Stadium last night.

“It wasn’t how we envisaged it going and we obviously wanted to win the game" he told iFollow. "We got ourselves ahead and there were some good parts, especially in the first half, and a few glimpses in the second but they scored a good goal to get to 1-1 and then the second goal was a good finish as well.

"We need to be stronger and look at a few things; the goals came from throw-ins higher up the pitch and we need to have a better shape as a team in those moments and be stronger in the tackle.

"We needed to show our experience a bit more. Chelsea have so many talented players but they are still young while we have a lot of games in our dressing room. We maybe needed to be more streetwise, use our nous and make better decisions.

"It was disappointing but we can still qualify out of the group if we win the last game, away at Sutton.

"We wanted to carry on the momentum from the Charlton game which I thought was a really good performance and we should have won that game, but we can’t change tonight and now we move on to Saturday and a big game at home to Wycombe. We want to start climbing the table so we learn from tonight and start looking to Saturday.”
