PREVIEW Oxford United v Wycombe Wanderers

Oxford United welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday in Sky Bet League 1.

TEAM NEWS
United made changes to the side for their Papa Johns Trophy game at home to Chelsea U21 on Tuesday night including the entire back four. Sam Long, Elliott Moore, Stuart Findlay and Ciaron Brown are all expected to return as are Cameron Brannagan, James Henry, Kyle Jospeh and Marcus Browne.

The one enforced change to the team that drew at Charlton last weekend comes because of an injury to Lewis Bate who is awaiting MRI scan results after a challenge in midweek.

Josh Murphy is close to a return after injury with Sam Baldock not too far behind.

THE OPPOSITION

“I know that the Oxford fans won’t really consider this to be a derby, but, I think over the years we have deserved to be worthy opponents for Oxford and I think we can be worthy opponents on Saturday” Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said.

“I think Karl should be proud of what he’s done as well because when both clubs went through their tough times, Wycombe were considered a small club, not a rival to anyone, and just a walkover or a pushover. And Oxford dropped into the Non Leagueand they were considered not the giants that they were once were. Now though, credit has to go to both clubs and it’s a great derby, of course it is.

“Both similar size clubs, I think Oxford average around 7,000 and we get around 5,000, their history is bigger than ours as they go a long way so it’s a real good derby.

GETTING HERE

Traffic around Oxford has been disrupted for the last few days due to a burst water main. This affects the Heyford Hill area (near the Sainsbury's roundabout) and we strongly advise fans to check traffic reports, sat navs, and relevant apps before leaving home.  If necessary please allow extra time for your journey.

The Football Special bus services, including the Didcot/Abingdon service, offer easy and affordable transport to home games. Click HERE for timetables and details.

MENTAL HEALTH WEK

World Mental Health Day is being celebrated globally on Monday 10th October and United will use the fixture with the Chairboys to raise awareness around mental health issues.

The club’s chosen charity, YoungMinds, is a charity that fights for young people’s mental health and has the vision of a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health. YoungMinds will have a presence outside the South Stand handing out key information about the charity and having bucket collectors outside every turnstile at the ground to raise money for such an important cause.

Both teams will also be wearing YoungMinds branded t-shirts during their warm-up before kick-off, with the club using one of these shirts to be signed and auctioned to raise additional funds for the charity.
