Oxford United Women's Development Squad beat Kidlington Youth Ladies 9-0 in the Oxfordshire FA County Cup yesterday afternoon.
The Development Squad took centre stage at Court Place Farm as they got to an experience a crowd of 246 at the ground that the U’s have gone unbeaten in for almost four years.
“It was nice to play here where we train and where the first team play. We challenge them to be creative and to express themselves on the pitch and we showed that today” said Development Squad Manager George Anthony.
“It was great to see their reaction playing in front of a big crowd which they don’t normally get. It was more pressure than they potentially have in the league system, being one of the favourites in the tournament. Once they settled down you could see the identity come through” added First Team Coach Kath Faulkner.
The U’s excelled under the pressure and showed the talent that Oxford have coming through the youth systems, hitting 9 past Kidlington, including two each for Billie French and Erin Hartigan.
“It was an amazing atmosphere and that really gave us a boost, so we want to thank the fans. It was a really well-rounded team performance to keep that unbeaten record going here. I should have got a hattrick, but we won’t talk about that!” said French.
Now the U’s look ahead to the long trip down to Cornwall in the vitality Women’s FA Cup to face Liskeard Athletic Ladies.
The tie will be played on Sunday the 27th of November at 2 PM.
