One of the highlights of Saturday’s draw with Forest Green was an astonishing save from keeper Simon Eastwood.
United’s keeper, now past 200 league appearances for the U’s, somehow got across his goal to keep out a goalbound effort that, ultimately, preserved a point for his side
“I was quite happy with that one” the modest Eastwood said. “It was just a reaction really. You turn round and then you try and make yourself big. Seeing it bounce almost on the line I was trying to claw it out and I was happy to manage to get it away.”
Voted as Man of the Match, the champagne didn’t make up for his side picking up one point when they were hoping for three:
“Its a home game and against the team bottom of the league so it’s one we went into looking to win and get the three points” he said “but looking at the way the game panned out it was probably a fair result.
“They could even have snatched it but in this league, and we have been around it long enough to know now, anyone can beat anybody and our second half performance was disappointing. If we’re being honest then at times it looked like there was only going to be one winner in the second half and we struggled to create chances and get our football going.
"We started well enough but after that we took our foot off the gas. Sometimes it’s hard at 1-0 up because you know teams will come here and take being a goal down at half time and still in the game, even after 60 or 70 and then try and get back in it during the last 20 minutes. Their game plan worked well.
"We are disappointed not to win but it could easily have gone the other way so in a couple of weeks if we win another couple of games and keep our unbeaten run going then we may look back on this and it turns into a good point"
