Oxford United Boss Karl Robinson was quick to praise his team’s incredible support on Saturday but left frustrated as his team lost 3-2 to in-form Bolton Wanderers.
A third crowd in a row of over 10,000 was there to cheer the U’s on but Karl told us:
“It was frustrating not to win for the fans because this is a fortress for us. The players showed desire and the fans stayed to applaud that because they could see the effort we had put in. We thank them for their support and we will get together now over the next seven days and keep working to be a better team.
“You’re not going to win games if you concede three goals, that’s obvious, although the first four goals were all outstanding finishes. There weren’t many defensive errors in those four goals.
“I thought the atmosphere was good and I thought the players gave everything as they always do. We missed one or two chances and they took their one opportunity in the second half.
“People will talk about the way we conceded but it came from a corner which wasn’t how we planned them: the keeper comes and takes it, we are in random positions and suddenly we get caught out. That’s the bit that frustrates me.
“But we had our own opportunities to hurt them in the second half and we didn’t take them. We were disappointed after going a goal up that we didn’t hold on for longer before conceding. Then we get to 2-1 and they peg us back again. We have to find a way to stop that happening but I thought we had control of the game for long periods.
“When we were on top in the second half we needed to score against a good team, but nobody played badly and it wasnt a bad team performance at all. We thank the fans who came in huge numbers again, and we move on to the next game, away at Charlton which we are really looking forward to.”
