Oxford United Women are delighted to announce the signing of Taome Oliver.
The energetic midfielder joins United for her third spell at the club. Liam Gilbert told us what Taome can bring to the squad.
“Taome is someone I’ve worked with before. She had to move away from the squad for work last year, so we are really happy to have her back. We’ll get her back up to speed quite quickly but she’ll be a great addition to the side both as a person and as a player. We know she brings a lot of tenacity to the midfield and that is always an added bonus.”
At training, Taome explained why she came back to Oxford United for the third time.
“Each time it has been such a fantastic experience. I obviously know Liam and a lot of the girls really well, so yeah, I can’t stay away! Third time lucky!” joked Oliver.
The former England U20 international is back at Court Place Farm after facing the disappointment of the 2020/21 campaign when the Yellows missed out on promotion due to COVID delaying their season.
“This team aims to achieve, it’s always our goal to get up there. It would be good to be able to get back to where we were and do it justice.”
Some fans will know Taome’s familiar face, but what can the fans who don’t expect?
“A bit of humour! No, I bring a bit of energy, I like to get on and around the ball and play it quickly, sharp and with a lot of passing. I’ll probably pass it a lot of times in front of goal when I should shoot, but mainly a bit of energy and some physicality as well.”
Oliver knows the club well and told us how good it was to be back.
“Really excited, it’s quite a similar group of staff here, and like I said I really enjoyed it last time. Coming back I’m just super happy to be involved again, it was great working with Liam before and I’m sure it’s going to be even better this time.”
Taome will be in action for the U’s at Court Place Farm for the opening game of the season against Bridgwater United on Sunday, 21st of August. Be there.
