Oxford United are delighted to welcome Linear Fisheries as Match Sponsor for our Carabao Cup 1st Round encounter with Swansea City this evening (7:45pm).
Smiths Bletchington, who own Linear Fisheries, are avid Oxford United supporters and have been advertising with the club for many years now. The fishery also has many United fans working for them and in recent years they’ve been very happy to have one of United’s star men, Cameron Brannagan fishing the lakes on a regular basis.
Linear Fisheries is based in Witney, Oxfordshire, and is one of the largest sports fisheries of its type in the UK and possibly Europe. Offering fishing for all ages, their waters contain many species of coarse fish and are available for anyone to fish.
The local fishery caters mainly to ‘Specimen Anglers’ looking to catch big fish, particularly carp, but the fishery does also offer fishing on several small waters that can be used by beginners to the sport, and free to juniors.
Linear Fisheries Oxford Ltd is owned by a family-run business, Smith & Sons Bletchington Ltd, and has been expanding the site for many years now, boasting nearly 20 waters that are open to the public. In 2019, they opened a brand-new on-site Tackle and Convenience store, called Linear Bait & Tackle.
Next year will see the fishery celebrating its 50th anniversary and with more plans on the horizon, they hope to be offering first-class sport at the complex for many years to come.
General Manager at Linear Fisheries, Chris Blunt told us, “We’ve got many members of the Linear team who support Oxford United and love their football, with fishing and footy making up the conversation most weeks.
“In fact, several of the fishery team has played at much lower levels in their younger days, with a few of us still enjoying coaching local grassroots teams such as Ducklington Sports, North Leigh, and Yarnton at various age groups – Needless to say, when the opportunity came up to sponsor a game, we grabbed it with both hands.
