Oxford United Women scored a last gasp equaliser at Southampton last night to draw 3-3 at the league champions.
Cheryl Williams’ 95th minute free kick screamed into the net to level things at the end of a dramatic 90 minutes.
The Saints took the lead from a corner after 15 minutes but United hit back to level through a Beth Lumsden penalty and then go 2-1 ahead at the break when Merrick Will strode through the defence to put United ahead.
They held the lead until the 75th minute but then two goals in five minutes put the home side 3-2 up before Williams’ leveller with almost the last kick of the match.
“It was an incredble game of football” Manager Liam Gilbert told us “and to have the character to keep going in those last few minutes and get something out of the game was a fantastic effort from our players.
“That’s twice this season we have pushed Southampton all the way and there has been very little to choose between the sides. I am so proud of the way we played and once again everyone has given it everything they have got.
“Now we get home, we recover and we give it one more big effort when we travel to Gillingham on Sunday.”
