Brandon Barker Signs for Oxford United

Oxford United have completed their third Deadline Day signing with the arrival of Brandon Barker on loan from Glasgow Rangers until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old winger started his career in the Academy at Manchester City, signing as a professional and winning caps for England at under 18, 19 and the under 20 age group. After loans at Rotherham, NEC Breda, Hibernian and Preston North End he signed permanently for Rangers under Steven Gerrard and has been a regular member of their Scottish Premier and Europa Cup campaigns.

“Make no mistake, this is a fantastic signing for this football club” Karl Robinson told us. “He is such a creative player but he has also grown up in a magnificent youth system and then this season he has been part of a very good Rangers side. For him to make a move to Oxford at this stage of his career speaks volumes about the reputation we have as a club for helping talented young player develop and get even better.

“I want to thank the Board who have backed us magnificently in this window. We are in a strong position right now and our form speaks for itself but there is still half a season to go and we think we have recruited three players who are really going to make us even stronger.”

“It’s a big move for me but I am really looking forward to it. Karl was a big part of my decision but I have also known Cameron Brannagan for a long time and I spoke to Kemar Roofe and they both told me what a brilliant club Oxford is and how well they have been playing.

"I like the way they play the game, I see a team on a fantastic run of form and I just can’t wait to be part of that and hopefully help them push on from the position they are currently in.”
