Oxford United Women suffered their first defeat of the season this afternoon in the National League as they lost 1-0 at Chichester and Selsey.
Sophie Phelps' goal five minutes into the second half was enough for the hosts despite a late United onslaught.
United had chances to take the lead in the first half and were particularly threatening from set pieces with free kicks from wide areas causing problems for Chichester and United also hit the bar from a corner bit for once they couldn't find a goal on a frustrating afternoon.
The hammer blow was dealt shortly after half-time by Phelps who tapped in from a low free kick to give Chichester the lead.
United tried to find a way back into the game and pushed hard for an equaliser but found the opposition keeper in inspired form and travelled home empty handed.
The U’s will look to get back to winning ways on Tuesday evening when they take on MK Dons at Court Place Farm.
