The Oxford United Academy programme is drawing to a close but there is still plenty of football to be played across the age group sides at the U’s.
The Under 18 side have one fixture remaining in the EFL Merit League when they play Bournemouth away on Saturday 8th May but that opens the door for an under 17 side to play at home to Cambridge on Saturday while the under 16s welcome QPR
The U16 side will then play Bristol City away and Crystal Palace at home while an ‘under 19’ side will end their season with a new fixture: a friendly against Oxford University on 15th May
Academy Manager Dan Harris told us
“It’s a chance to look at new ideas because leagues are moving to U17s and U19s next season across the EFL so we need to be ready for that: it’s part of our reasoning behind the under 16s this season stepping up to play games with the lads in the years above.
“We also get to play against sides we wouldn’t normally face like QPR and Palace and the game against the University is something we are really excited about, a game we would love to become an annual fixture.
“Our schoolboy programmes continue until 22nd May and it has been great to have some parents back in to watch games this week. They have been so supportive through a really difficult year and we will look to end the season with a Family Fun Day event as well as our end of season awards.”
