Oxford United have two games left to claim a play-off place at the end of the Sky Bet League 1 season.
They travel to Shrewsbury on Saturday knowing that a win is required and that the Shrews will be boosted by the return of boss Steve Cotterill to the dug out after a lengthy illness
“First of all I want to say how nice it will be to have Steve in the opposite dugout because he has been through a lot this season so that’s brilliant news” Karl Robinson told iFollow. “Some things are more important than football and we send him our best wishes and look forward to seeing him on Saturday. I’m sure their fans will be excited to have their Manager back and ours would have loved to have been there to see the game. There will be a tinge of disappointment as we travel to the game without them but we have to make sure they can enjoy it back in Oxford.
“I thought the result at our place flattered us a little bit because Shrewsbury were good on the night and we know they have a lot of senior players in their squad who know what the game is all about so we know just how hard the game is going to be for us.
"But we have James Henry and Sam Winnall back - they trained today and are fit. Brandon Barker trained with the physios rather than the main group and I have said three or four times recently that he was fit then he never made it so I’d rather keep my mouth shut this time!
“We understand there are two big games still to play. We get it. But we also enjoy what we do and have no control over goals in other games or things elsewhere so why get yourselves wrapped up in that? The data from training today and Tuesday has been through the roof and they have trained with a real edge and sharpness to things. They won’t be distracted by the ifs, buts and maybes.
“It is only ever about us. We are calm about the situation but we do understand the magnitude of these two games. There is a spring in everyone’s step and an air of excitement but also a steely determination. We know what we have to do.”
