Oxford United are delighted to announce that midfielder George Thorne has joined the club on a permanent deal.
George has been on loan at the U’s from Derby County in the first half of the season but has had limited opportunities due to injury; a dislocated shoulder keeping him out most recently. Now fully fit he joins the U’s on a contract until the end of the season and told us
“I’m determined to do well here because it has been so frustrating so far. I got fit and then dislocated the shoulder and it has taken a while to get over that but I have been working hard and have loved being here and want to be part of it.
"The Gaffer, the coaching staff, the players and everyone behind the scenes has been spot on and the club is set up perfectly for a real promotion push this season which is so exciting. I am fit now and want to play a part in that.”
Karl Robinson told us
“George has an unbelievable attitude. He captained Derby when he was very young and is a natural leader and a great character which will be valuable for the second part of this season. He has had dreadful luck with injuries but even when he’s not been playing he has been a big voice in the dressing room and he was so determined to make a go of it here that he came to me with a plan of how we could make a deal work to keep him here.
“I know he is sad to leave Derby but we have got a very good player at an unbelievable deal for this club and it’s going to be exciting if we can get him involved on a much more regular basis.”
