Tier Rise Affects Boxing Day Fixture

Following the announcement that Oxfordshire will become Tier 4 from Boxing Day we regret to announce that our Sky Bet League 1 game at home to AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day will now have to be played behind closed doors.

Fans who were allocated tickets will have them transferred to the first game when fans can safely attend matches. Tickets for our next home game against Doncaster Rovers will no longer be available as that game will also now be behind closed doors.

“I feel so sorry for the fans” Managing Director Niall McWilliams told us. “We have to abide by the rules, obviously, but the atmosphere has been amazing since they started to come back to matches and it has done so much to lift everyone’s spirits.

“It’s clearly a huge blow to the fans and we can only offer our sympathy and hope they understand the situation. But it is also gutting for everyone at the club because a huge amount of work had gone into making the stadium a safe environment for people to enjoy matches again. All we can do is keep working as hard as we can to make sure that as soon as we are able to we can welcome our fans back to support the team.”

Karl Robinson added:

“We were looking forward to playing in front of the fans and I know how much they were all looking forward to coming along. I can only imagine the disappointment this will cause: a lot of fans plan their Christmas around going to football on Boxing Day.

“What we have to do is try not to let it ruin Christmas completely. There is still a game to play, we still have to prepare properly and the best thing we can do now is go out there and win a game for the fans who I am sure will be watching at home and wishing they there with us.”

The game will be shown live on iFollow: season ticket holders have details on how to view the steam as part of their package. Match passes are available for £10 by Clicking HERE
