Oxford United Women Ready For League Opener

Oxford United Women are ready to kick off their season on Sunday at Court Place Farm, with a home fixture against Chichester City in the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division.

After two postponed games beyond the club’s control, the U’s Women are raring to get started in the league as they host Chichester City at Court Place Farm (2pm).

United's opponents are without a win this season after 3-0 losses to both MK Dons and Yeovil, and First Team manager Liam Gilbert is looking forward to the test.

“It has been slightly frustrating with the unfortunate postponed fixtures, but the girls have continued working hard off the pitch and are excited to get going on Sunday. It’s always nice to kick off the league games with a home match so we are expecting Sunday to be a great occasion.”

After being knocked out of the FAWNL Cup in their opening competitive game of the season, club captain Lauren Haynes is backing the girls to put their mistakes right on Sunday:

“There were so many positives out there. If you look where we are now compared to last season and the start of this season, we’re way above where we were then and with the plan and the journey we’re going on, we’re going in the right direction.

“Our main aim is to concentrate on the league so Sunday will be a chance to put our mistakes right. We’ve got the backing, the support, the environment is right and there’s only going to be good things for this football club in the future.”

You can read the full interview with Lauren in the matchday programme which will be available at the turnstiles for just £1.
