With the Oxford United players due in for testing this Saturday, the club is pleased to announce that Gavin Whyte will be wearing the number 10 shirt for the 2019/20 season.
Gavin, who wore the number 16 shirt last season, joined United from Crusaders last July and immediately impressed with his exciting runs and eye for goal. He scored nine goals in his first season in professional football, including a memorable hat-trick at Shrewsbury in April.
He was awarded his first full Northern Ireland cap last May and was recently involved in the national side’s Euro 2020 qualifying game against Estonia, his fifth appearance for the team.
United Head Coach Karl Robinson said: “With the players due in for testing on Saturday and then starting training on Monday, we wanted to make a start on our planning for next season.
“I have spoken to Gavin and he is naturally honoured to be given the number 10 shirt for the new campaign. He is an exciting player and features highly in our plans going forward.”
United’s full squad numbers will be announced in due course.
