With the first team earning a well-deserved rest before they head out to Portugal for a training camp tomorrow, it was time for the academy sides to begin their pre-season programme today.
Coming in small groups throughout the day, the young U’s started their session in the gym before moving out to the grass where they were put to the test with a series of gruelling running drills.
The pre-season testing is designed to measure the players' fitness and physical levels after reporting back from the summer break.
Academy Manager Dan Harris told us
“It was great to see some familiar faces back here today as well as welcoming the new lads and first year scholars to the club. Intensity levels were high and it was a great first day back here at the training ground. We are really excited at what this season has to offer for our young players as well as progressing as a club on and off the pitch.”
The new scholars for 2019 are:
Damian Niemczycki - a goalkeeper who has previously spent time at Arsenal
Callum Crook - a striker from Oxford who joined the club as an under 14
Jack Gardner - a midfielder who joined the academy in the under 13s
Tyler Goodrham - another local midfielder who has already played in the under 18s
Trey Grant - a right back signed from Crystal Palace
Sam Johnson - a left back who has been in the Norwich City Academy for seven years
Keanu Barnett-Grant - a six foot three centre-back from Coventry
