Oxford United’s under 18s kick off the second half of the season when they travel to Northampton Town tomorrow morning (11am).
United’s youth team won their league to enter Merit League 1 and tomorrow sees their first game when they travel to the Cobblers. Coach Leon Blackmore-Such told us:
“The boys were fantastic in our league and winning the title was something they should be very proud of. Now the top teams in two leagues go into this new division so the standard will be high, but it is also a chance for us to look at one or two new things: our under 16s need to show what they can do and can gain experience for when they become the first year scholars next season and we will hopefully introduce one or two new faces as well.
“Northampton won their own league so it should be a good game, and obviously we want to do well in this new competition, but the aim has to be for the players to keep learning and test themselves against some strong teams, and for us to keep building, help them develop, with one eye always on the future.”
