Head Coach Karl Robinson was delighted to see his team pick up their first three points on the road this season with a 1-0 win at Blackpool.
But while the United boss was quick to praise the fans and the players he also asked for another team effort when the U’s welcome Scunthorpe to the Kassam Stadium next Saturday.
“Football’s crazy sometimes” he told iFollow after Jordan Graham’s free kick decided the game at Bloomfield Road. “We played at Accrington on Tuesday and were really disappointed for the 300 fans who made a difficult journey on Champions League night to support the team they love. We took some criticism and maybe deserved that. But then we have over 800 prepared to travel with us again today which just shows what we have here and I thank those fans. It also shows what we have to accomplish here for them.
“Nobody want to be in the position we are in. It’s a precarious one still and one win isn’t enough. We have a lot of work to do still.
“But today the players gave it everything and their mentality, hunger and desire were spot on. Those are far greater things than any of us and I think the players have a duty of care towards the badge that they wear and should always abide by that. They played today like the club meant the world to them
“I’ve got a sore throat now and will need some Lockets! But I’d go through any pain barrier for these players and this football club. This is an exceptional group of players who I care a lot for but more than that there is such huge potential here.
“We are still at a very difficult stage and everyone has to be patient with each other. All the difficulties we have gone through this season; we have always tried to stand here after games and be honest. I thank the players and the fans today but will all due respect we are still in a terrible position in the league and we need everyone together again when we take on Scunthorpe at home next Saturday.”
