Goals from Tyler Goodrham, Callum Crook, Fabio Lopes, Michael Elechi, Leon Chambers-Parillon and Jack Stevens saw Oxford United U18s beat Newport County 7-0 at the Training Ground this morning.
The young U's got off to an excellent start and were ahead within a minute. Goodrham's cross caused lots of trouble in the wind causing a Newport defender to head into his own net. United were comfortable in possession and asked a lot of questions early on as they found space down both flanks and grabbed their second on 19 minutes when Sam Johnson who has impressed at right back in recent weeks got forward and sent in an inviting cross towards Goodrham who headed in. United's third of the game two minutes later was almost a carbon copy as Johnson crossed again, this time finding the head of Crook who headed in.
United were dangerous from the wide areas and Lopes profited from another corner that wasn't dealt with by Newport and he rolled the ball in to make it four for the U's before half time. United's tempo continued where it left off in the second half as Elechi's superb first touch took him into the area one-on-one and he finished into the bottom corner.
The young U's were dominant in possession throughout and used the opportunity to give minutes to U16 player Mac Masters, Jack Gardner and the returning Trey Grant who returned from injury to gain a valuable 45 minutes.
Midfielder Chambers-Parillon grabbed the sixth with a neat finish 15 minutes from time before Stevens finished off a fine team move to ensure the U's continue their prolific goalscoring form going into a big game in the FA Youth Cup on Friday against Maidenhead United at Court Place Farm
