New loan signing Luke Garbutt joined up with his Oxford United teammates for the first time yesterday after completing his move from Everton for the forthcoming season.
The 25-year-old left back told iFollow how pleased he is to be with the U’s, and that some familiar faces had told him plenty about life with Karl Robinson’s team:
“I spoke to John Lundstram and Ryan Ledson and they had nothing but praise for Oxford: the fans, the way they play and the people around the club, and that they had a platform to perform here and really enjoyed their football.
“But I had made my mind up anyway when I came down and met the Manager a few weeks back. We sat down over a coffee and he spoke about where he sees it this season and I really liked what he had to say.
"We looked around the stadium, we went and looked at the new training ground which will be ready soon, and I was really impressed by the way he hopes to build up the squad and be up there challenging for those top places this season.
“Yesterday was a bit of a strange day. I went into Everton, sorted the paperwork then flew out to Dublin to meet the team. They were great with me and made me feel part of things straight away. Obviously pre-season is supposed to be hard and they were telling me I had missed two or three very tough days, so I timed it well! Now I just look forward to getting started and training for the first time.”
