Oxford United have competed the signing of Albanian international striker Agon Mehmeti on a one year deal.
Agon, 27, was born in the former Yugoslavia but moved to Sweden when he was two and later came through the youth system at Malmo to become their top scorer in the 2009/10 season when they won the league.
At Malmo he worked with United boss Pep Clotet and played alongside Ricardinho and Ivo Pekalski, representing Sweden at under 19 and under 21 level until he chose to play for Albania at full international level. In between two spells at Malmo, where he played in the Champions League, he played in Italy for Palermo and on loan in Portugal.
He told us:
“I am really excited to be at Oxford. Pep is a great coach who I enjoyed working with before and this is a great time to join him again and be part of what he is building.”
Pep told us:
“Agon is a player who has a fantastic track record when it comes to finishing. He has played in many different leagues and shown the ability to adapt and when I knew he was available outside the transfer window I thought it was a great opportunity for us to add him and strengthen our options up front.”
