Oxford United Women FC are delighted to be able to announce the signing of highly rated, ball playing midfielder, Steph Williams.
Williams signs from Yeovil Town where she was an integral part of their promotion winning campaign into the WSL 1 in the 2015/16 season. The 25-year-old made over 40 appearances for Yeovil but is now keen to bring a wealth of experience to the Yellows. Steph will wear the number 6 shirt for the season.
Steph told us “I've had such a warm welcome to the club over a very short space of time and I really can't fault the club as a whole. The facilities are exactly what we need to get the ball rolling and start the season off on a high. Oxford have nothing to lose and everything to gain in my eyes, the countdown to the league is on. “
“Oxford seem like a close-knit community based club which is what I love about a team. It has much more character than what you see, the staff behind the scenes are also top notch. So far I've been very impressed with the set up here”
First Team Manager Andy Cook told us "After speaking to Steph and seeing her in training I knew we had to make this move happen; she gives us strength in the air and middle of field plus she can play, which I think people have overlooked. She wants to play in a style and team that will challenge her and that's what we will provide at Oxford. Having Steph in squad gives us more options and will cause more problems for teams playing us. Having spoke to Steph she knows where she wants to play and what she wants to achieve and I'm pleased she feels she can do that here at Oxford."
Steph will be in the squad for the U's in their preseason friendly against Birmingham City Ladies this weekend.
