Alex Mowatt Joins Oxford United

Oxford United have completed the signing of midfielder Alex Mowatt on a season-long loan from Championship club Barnsley.

The England under 20 international, now 22, started his career at Leeds United where he captained the youth side before breaking into the Leeds’ first team at the start of the 2013/14 season and winning the Young Player of the Season Award.

The following season he won the Player of the Year Award and also the Players Player of the Year award at Elland Road. After over 100 games he made the move to Barnsley in January 2017 and started this season in central midfield for the Tykes.

Manager Pep Clotet worked with Mowatt at Leeds and told us:

“We were interested as soon as we found out there was a possibility of getting him because we feel he is a player who adds to our creative options. He can play in any position in the midfield and although he is still only 22 he has played well over 100 games in the Championship and has lots of experience for his age.

“He is the right type of player for us, one who wants to work hard and be part of what we are building. I am sure he will do very well for this club.”
