Winger settles in after whirlwind Deadline Day
New signing Marvin Johnson was out on the training ground today for his first session as an Oxford United player. The former Motherwell winger joined for an undisclosed fee on Deadline Day and admitted to Yellow Player HD that it had been quite a day.
“You never know if you’re coming or going on a day like that” he laughed. “Anything can happen and I’m just glad that we got it over the line. I just want to get started. I don’t want to go through all this again any time soon; I just want to meet the lads, get involved, meet everyone and start training and preparing for Saturday’s game.”
Marvin joined fellow new boy Charlie Raglan on the training ground today as he starts a new chapter in his career. However he was quick to thank Motherwell and their fans for their support over the last couple of years.
“Definitely. From the moment I got there I had a great feeling about the club” he said “and every single day, anything I’ve needed they have been there to help me. I was never once unhappy at the place and I’ve given 100 percent in every single game and tried to work hard for the team. I feel like I gave my all to Motherwell and to the fans and so it was a big decision to leave.”
Even so, Marvin feels that he has made the right move in joining the U’s.
“Oxford is a great club and only aiming to go in one direction, which is forward” he said. “The Manager impressed me and I spoke to Chey Dunkley who I played with at Kidderminster and he only had good things to say about the set up here and the fans.
“I want to come here and keep improving as a player; the club has a great reputation for doing that. I’m not happy just to come here, I want to kick on again, help the team out and make sure we continue to go in the right direction.”
