Midfielder missing until new year
Midfielder Liam Sercombe faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a scan revealed the full extent of the injury he picked up in the game at Shrewsbury on Saturday.
Sercombe slid into a 50/50 challenge in the last minute of the game and left the field on a stretcher. Although the scan has revealed no break it has shown a rupture of the medial ligament and Sercombe will now see a specialist this afternoon to advise on whether an operation will be required.
Head Coach Michael Appleton told us
“It’s not good news and it could be as much as six months before he is playing again. It wasn’t a foul, it was an honest challenge and he came off worse.
"It’s a blow because he has been a big part of the side over the last year or two and been very versatile this season. We will see what the specialist says but it means that other players will now get the chance to impress while Liam is recovering.”
