Ron Returns for Gillingham Game

Grab a signed copy of 'The Manager'

Next Tuesday sees a true Manor Legend return when Ron Atkinson comes back to the club where his football career truly took off.

Ron is one of English football's most recognisable and popular characters, having been involved in management for a quarter of a century. It all started for Ron as a player at the Manor, captaining the side and leading from the front as the club rose from the Southern League to the modern day Championship

Alongside his brother Graham- the club’s all time top scorer- Ron was the heartbeat of the first great Oxford side and will be our guest next Tuesday when we take on Gillingham in League 1.

“I’m really looking forward to it” he told us earlier today. “It’s the club where everything started for me and I love going back to see the old faces around the place. It’s a wonderful club and one that I have so many fantastic memories.”

Ron will be signing copies of his new book, ‘The Manager’ which is now in stock in the club shop. A perfect stocking filler for any United fan the book focusses on an extraordinary career that took him from non-league management to Old Trafford's theatre of dreams in the space of seven years.

With detailed portraits of the men he worked with and against, including Bryan Robson, Paul McGrath, Sir Alex Ferguson and Dwight Yorke, Atkinson also discusses the rise of the foreign footballer, the decline of the English manager and what it is like to sing live at Ronnie Scott's!

“It’s the third instalment of my life story” he told us. “I have done three books now, each one about 15 years apart. It looks at Management on the whole and I think tells a good story along the way."

Copies of 'The Manager' are now available in the club shop, and online at www.oufcshop.co.uk  and Ron will be our guest for the home game against Gillingham on 22nd November where he will be signing copies of the book and chatting to fans in the shop.

Come along and meet a Manor Hero.
