MacDonald, Crowley and Taylor on the Mark

Development side beat the Royals

Oxford United's Development Side enjoyed another good win this afternoon with a 3-2 victory over Reading in a behind closed doors friendly at Wokingham.

First half goals from Alex MacDonald and Dan Crowley, from the spot, were twice cancelled out by the home side before Ryan Taylor scored the winner for an experienced United side.

The U's started with Jack Stevens in goal and Phil Edwards and Jonny Giles as full backs alongside Robbie Cundy and Miles Welch-Hayes. Robbie Hall continued his comeback from injury on the right of midfield alongside Josh Ruffels, Crowley and MacDonald while Taylor partnered Wes Thomas up front.

It was MacDonald who opened the scoring with an excellent goal, overlapping before cutting inside and firing a fine shot into the top corner. The Royals pulled back to 1-1 very quickly though, breaking swiftly from a United corner to make it 1-1 on the counter attack.

Back came United and Hall's shot struck a hand to give Crowley the chance to make it 2-1 from the spot. Again Reading came back and made it 2-2 at the break before Taylor won the game with a good finish in the second half, showing quick feet to create a scoring opportunity before finishing well to end the scoring at 3-2.

Chris Allen told us

"We have been doing well in these games and that's because of the attitude and application from all of the players. It was the same again in the first half where we did very well. It petered out a little bit after the break but we created chances and Ryan scored a decent goal to seal a win, which is always good for confidence.

"One or two of the lads are coming back from injury, we gave some of the younger players a chance to impress and overall it was an excellent win and a decent performance."
