U's beat Nike Academy at St George's Park
Rob Hall and Ryan Ledson both scored as they continued their comebacks in a development game against Nike Academy at St George’s Park today.
The pair both played the full 90 minutes as the U’s took the chance to give players game time and match sharpness. Chris Allen told us:
“It was a really good work out and our thanks to the Nike Academy who made it a very competitive game that really tested us. Obviously the two lads coming back from injury was the main thing but we were delighted with the way the whole team played and the attitude that all of the players showed. They were thoroughly professional, very motivated and it made it a very good afternoon’s work.
“Rob Hall opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a fantastic strike. He took charge at a free kick and fired it top corner to give us the perfect start.
“We did well and created a lot of chances so it should have been more than the scoreline suggest perhaps, but Ryan Ledson made it 2-0 after 70 with another great finish. He struck it and it flew into the top left corner again to cap a really solid performance.
“The only downside was Sam Long having to go off when his hamstring tightened up towards the end but we will check that and hopefully it won’t be too serious. Over all it was just what you want from this type of game: well contested, competitive and players getting out on the pitch and getting minutes under their belt.
